ASE 2012: Interview with Founder Shawn Collins

The must-attend industry expo, Affiliate Summit East comes to NYC again this summer, with the good and the great of affiliate marketing descending on the Hilton New York from August 12th.

As bronze sponsors, we caught up with one of the event founders, Shawn Collins, to find out what continues to make the Affiliate Summit events so successful and what we can expect from this year’s expo.

With budgets being tightened and squeezed across the board, how does Affiliate Summit East continue to offer value for money to those who purchase delegate passes?

We’re continually working to make the passes a valuable experience, and we add in lots of different features and benefits each time around. Some are very subtle, behind the scenes things, while others are more obvious. Last week, when we held a smaller event in Austin, TX, the motive for this added Affiliate Summit was to test different ideas and processes to scale some up for the bigger events. For instance, we dropped the traditional badge bar code in favor of QR codes on badges, so anybody with a smart phone could collect contact information when meeting people. We also tried out a new social networking platform to test whether it would help attendees do more pre and post event networking. And we tried out some shorter length sessions (20 minutes, rather than 60 minutes) to see how people liked having more topics covered in shorter, more intense bursts.

Performance marketing is at the forefront of the mobile revolution. In 2012 Affiliate Window anticipates it will drive more than two million transactions through handsets and tablets. As a proven acquisition channel the pressure is now on, more than ever before, to fully understand the scope and range of activity.

On May 16th, Strategy Director Kevin Edwards and Client Strategist Matt Swan presented at Internet Retailing‘s UK Jumpstart event where they looked at mobile from all angles.

The presentation included highlighting handset trends, investigating key sectors driving sales and looking into those publishers who are forging ahead. The session continued with publisher success stories, the practicalities of working with mobile devices as well as an analysis of where mobile is heading
