1 in 6 clicks through handset devices prove we’re in for a mobile Christmas

m-commerce-imageIt is widely anticipated this year will be a mobile Christmas. In fact, John Lewis has predicted that mobile traffic will overtake desktop for the first time on Christmas Day. Our own mobile stats also indicate mobile activity is ramping up. Assessing millions of clicks and sales from affiliate programs of some of the largest retailers in the UK and US, we have seen the share of tablet and handset traffic hit 35% at weekends, with an increasing share of that through smartphones. With one in every six clicks originating from a mobile handset, can you afford not to be mobile ready this Christmas?

-On Sunday November 17th 35% of traffic came through a mobile device. The iPhone and iPad were neck and neck with 13.4% each.

-With Cyber Monday (December  2nd) fast approaching, mobile will play an increasingly important role in the peak shopping period. We expect a significant increase on last year’s 6% share of sales through mobile handsets.

-Additional mobile spikes are widely anticipated. Traditionally mobile traffic jumps over the weekend peaking last year on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

-With sales starting earlier than ever, the connected mobile consumer is a captive audience over the holidays.

-Mobile optimized sites have increased conversion rates significantly through handsets while also driving up average order values.

-Average order values through mobile handsets stood at $81 last December with consumers predicted to spend even more this year.

New Reduced Payment Thresholds

Tax Update

During October, the Illinois Supreme court upheld a lower court decision that the “Amazon Tax” law was unconstitutional and violated federal law, which was a huge victory for Illinois affiliates.  Unfortunately, the Performance Marketing Association’s appeal of the Colorado internet tax law was denied.  The rejection of the law by the Illinois Supreme court combined with the support of the law by the New York Supreme Court sets the stage for the case to be considered by the US Supreme Court, though the New York Attorney General has asked for the case not to be accepted.

Amazon will begin collecting sales tax in both Maryland and Wisconsin due to nexus caused by building warehouse facilities in both locations.

zanox completes the acquisition of Digital Window

zanox continues to invest in successful performance marketing business by acquiring the remaining shares of the UK & US network, Affiliate Window

zanox, the leading European performance advertising network, has completed the acquisition of Digital Window Ltd., the holding company of the multi-award winning UK and US affiliate network Affiliate Window, by acquiring the remaining 49.9% of shares.

“In recent years Affiliate Window has further consolidated its position as the principal affiliate network in the UK, the most advanced and competitive market in Europe”, says Thomas Joosten, CEO of zanox: “Affiliate Window has a proven track record of offering top brands excellent service, growing mid-tier clients and entering the mobile commerce segment. Our intention is to allow that to continue to flourish while merging some of the Affiliate Window advanced processes and technology across the entire zanox group.
